Stay Safe & Cool, Pacific NW Friends!

We’re in for some record breaking hot weather here in the PNW. Are you prepared?

Hey there, friends and neighbors… we’re in for a blazing hot couple of days this weekend, and we hope everyone is prepared. These next couple of days are going to be some literal record breakers, I’m afraid. The weather forecast says the heat will creep up to 102 here tomorrow and scorch the record books on Sunday, with 112. (I dread the thought!) Further North up the valley, the temperatures could reach 115 or above.

Please keep yourselves as cool as you can — stay in an air conditioned space as much as possible, drink lots of water, use cold compresses to cool yourself if needed. Don’t forget to check in on your friends and relatives and make sure they’re doing OK, and keep an eye on your furry/feathery friends who can’t come inside in the AC with you. (We’re keeping the misters on for the tiny-yet-fierce feathery velociraptors and stocking up on ice and frozen treats to give them throughout the worst parts of these next couple of days.)

For our friends who have not spent a lot of time with us here in Western Oregon’s Willamette Valley, you might be interested to know that 102 (let alone 112 or 115) is not a temperature that we see often here. We normally have a temperate climate, with a wet season and a dry season. We get a lot of cool rain between October and June, and during the wet/cool season, we very rarely see snow on the valley floor or temperatures much below freezing. Then we move to a warm, dry period July through September. (The long time residents will say that you can expect regular rain showers until the 5th of July, though that has been changing in recent years… we haven’t had a rainy July 4th in a decade or so.) The weather during the three dry months is usually in the low to mid 80s, with a few days here and there in the 90s, and maybe a day or two every few years up to the very low 100s. Since this has historically been the very predictable weather pattern, our homes and business buildings are often not built to handle such intense heat. For this reason, we have a lot of folks to worry about, and a lot of businesses will be closing up shop this weekend to help protect them.

So… everyone please stay safe and as cool as you can this weekend, and we’ll be here for your website needs on Monday!
