Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start — and your website deserves one too!
If you own a service-based company, your website should be helping you get bookings or inquiries — not just sitting there collecting dust.
The good news? You don’t need to be tech-savvy to give your site a powerful refresh.
Set a timer for 60 minutes and work through this simple checklist.
And if at any point you think, “Nope. Not touching that.” — that’s exactly what we’re here for at Roost Web Strategies.
Step 1 (10 Minutes): Check Your Contact Information
This sounds obvious — but it’s one of the most common issues we see.
Make sure:
- Your phone number is correct and clickable on mobile
- Your email address is correct
- Your address is accurate
- Your booking link works
- Your hours are current
Bonus tip: Visit your site from your phone and pretend you’re a brand-new client. How easy is it to contact you?
If it takes more than one or two taps, simplify it.
Step 2 (10 Minutes): Update Your Homepage Headline
Your homepage headline should clearly answer this question:
What do you do and who do you help?
Not:
- “Welcome to Our Website”
Instead, try:
- “Relaxing Therapeutic Massage in Downtown Cottage Grove”
- “Helping Busy Women Achieve Clearer Skin Naturally”
- “Confidence Coaching for Entrepreneurs”
Clear beats clever every time.
Step 3 (10 Minutes): Remove or Update Outdated Content
Go page by page and look for:
- Old promotions
- Expired certifications
- Services you no longer offer
- Team members who aren’t there anymore
- Old blog posts referencing past events
Outdated content quietly erodes trust.
If something isn’t accurate anymore, fix it or remove it.
Step 4 (10 Minutes): Add or Refresh Testimonials
Social proof builds trust faster than anything else.
Add:
- 2–3 recent client testimonials
- First name + last initial (if permitted)
- Specific results if possible
For example:
“After just three sessions, my shoulder pain improved dramatically.”
If you don’t have fresh testimonials, now’s the time to ask. And ask directly via email, text or however you talk directly to your customers. A simple message works:
“If you’ve enjoyed your experience, would you mind sharing a short testimonial I can add to my website?”
Step 5 (10 Minutes): Improve Your Calls-to-Action
Every page should clearly guide visitors toward one next step.
Examples:
- “Book Your Appointment”
- “Schedule a Free Consultation”
- “Call Now”
- “Request Pricing”
Make sure:
- The button stands out visually
- It appears more than once on longer pages
- It links directly to your booking system or contact page
If someone has to hunt for how to contact you or sign up for a service, many simply won’t.
Step 6 (10 Minutes): Refresh Your Photos
Even if you’re not selling products, visuals matter a lot!
Ask yourself:
- Do the photos look current?
- Are they bright and professional?
- Do they reflect your space today?
Even taking a few updated smartphone photos in good natural light can make a big difference.
Avoid:
- Dark images
- Blurry photos
- Stock images that don’t match your actual business
Authenticity builds trust.
When It Makes Sense to Get Help
If you found yourself thinking:
- “I’m afraid I’ll break something.”
- “I don’t even know where to log in.”
- “I don’t have time for this.”
- “I’ve been meaning to update it for two years…”
You’re not alone.
Many small business owners feel uncomfortable touching their websites — especially if someone else built it originally.
That’s exactly why we offer website refresh services at Roost Web Strategies.
We can:
- Help you clean up outdated content
- Improve your messaging
- Strengthen your calls-to-action
- Update images
- Optimize for local visibility
- Make sure everything works properly
So you can focus on running your business — not wrestling with your website. Contact Us!
