We recently had a couple of really slow months as summer turned to fall, and people seemed to take a short spending hiatus in preparation for the holiday season. Now we are getting a lot of inquiries all at once… which is great! A lot of what is driving this activity is that people are realizing that if you have a business, you do need a website and websites also require some upkeep. Also, for a lot of companies, web design and other web services can be considered a tax write-off! A lot of businesses categorize their website expenses as marketing or operational expenses. As I’m writing this, we have just over a month or so of the year for business to get their expenses in to reduce their 2020 tax liability. Most of us certainly can use all the help we can get, since this has been a really tough year for just about everyone!

If your business does not currently have a website, and you’re thinking about getting one, it would be good for you to understand that the benefits of having a website greatly outweigh the cost, especially if you group these expenses into your marketing budget. Some of the website expenses that businesses often write off are: web design and development, content creation, website hosting, and domain name registration. Other marketing expenses related to having a website could be: training and support services, online advertising, search engine optimization (SEO) services, social media, and online reputation management. There are many ways that you can wrap this into your marketing budget for your business, taking advantage of tax benefits, and building a robust online presence at the same time. To find out more, read our article here about why your business really should have a website to learn about some of the benefits of having a website.

If your business is considering a website project, now might be a good time to get that work on the books. You could begin with a strategy session, create a game plan, and make the payment in December, even if the actual work isn’t completed until January sometime. Time is getting short though, so reach out to your friendly neighborhood web spinner today! (Need one? Don’t worry, you can reach out to us any time!)
